Why Facebook has shut thousands of accounts in the US, and how it is also a 'warning' for India
Facebook shuts down thousands of fake social media accounts in the US that spread polarising political content, which complements Chinese government propaganda. Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company, identifies the network of nearly 4,800 fake accounts originating from China. These accounts posed as American Facebook users and shared posts from politicians, news outlets, and others to exaggerate partisan divisions. The same modus operandi of these accounts poses a threat to upcoming elections in countries like India. Meta emphasizes the need to remain alert to foreign threat actors attempting to reach people online.
