Once Ravaged By Militancy, This Assam District Is Now A Tourist Hotspot
The remote Dima Hasao district of Assam, which was once part of the North Cachar Hills, was so ravaged by senseless insurgency that even the railways had to run trains with bulletproof engines in the region. However, things have changed. The district is now peaceful, thanks to a drastic decline in ethnic insurgency over the past decade. Now, this hill district is trying to position itself as one of the most exotic tourist destinations in the region, and to reclaim its nickname, "the Switzerland of the Northeast." NDTV's Ratnadip Choudhury and Sanjay Chakraborty report.
