Scientists from the University of Massachusetts Amherst have developed a bacteria-based intracellular delivery system that can potentially reorient the body's immune system against cancer. The system uses a non-toxic strain of Salmonella to deliver a childhood vaccine antigen into malignant tumor cells, triggering an immune response that effectively stops the cancer and prevents its recurrence. The team plans to seek FDA approval to start clinical trials within a few years..
