Explained: Airline ticket fraud, how it works and tips to stay protected
Airline ticket scams are on the rise, with scammers offering tickets at unbelievably low prices through fake websites and social media. They ask for immediate payment via bank transfer, virtual currencies, or cash, using stolen credit cards to purchase and send the tickets. If the owner reports the stolen card, the ticket gets canceled, leaving the buyer without a ticket and losing money. Signs of a scam include low ticket prices, last-minute departure dates, and incomplete contact information. To stay safe, book directly from the airline or a reputable travel agency, use secure online transactions, research the agency, and review terms and conditions.
