Epic CEO Tim Sweeney calls Android a “fake open platform”
During the antitrust lawsuit between Epic Games and Google, Epic's CEO, Tim Sweeney, testified that the Android operating system is a "fake open platform" and accused Google of maintaining a monopoly in the mobile app distribution market. Sweeney claimed that Google offered financial incentives to prevent Epic from competing with them and formed secret agreements with device manufacturers. He also mentioned that distributing Fortnite through their website instead of the Play Store was unsuccessful. Sweeney's main goal is for the court to stop Google's unfair practices rather than seeking monetary damages.
