Disney goes after ‘freeloaders,’ as it cracks down on password sharing
Disney is following in the footsteps of Netflix by cracking down on password sharing. The company announced restrictions on sharing account credentials outside of the household for Canadian subscribers. Disney defines a household as the devices associated with the primary personal residence. While details are not yet available, there may be an option to add non-household members. The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, previously stated that account sharing would be addressed in 2024, but the company is starting earlier. It remains unclear if profile transfers, extra member fees, and restrictions on the ad-supported tier will be implemented. Disney+Hotstar in India is also planning to limit password sharing.
