The existing MagSafe technology has drawbacks, such as heat traps and processor throttling. In a new patent, Apple proposes using a magnetic field sensor in electronic devices to recognize MagSafe accessories. This enables the devices to differentiate between a MagSafe charger and a MagSafe iPhone case.
